You know what hit me first about the Adriatic Residence? The smell of sea salt actually reaches you before you even see the water – and I mean that in the best way possible. This isn’t one of those sterile chain hotels where everything feels like it was designed by committee. When I walked into the lobby, there were these weathered maritime maps on the walls that looked like they’d been there since the place opened, not something corporate hung up last week.

The thing about this place – and honestly, this took me by surprise – is how the staff actually remembers your name after the first day. I stayed for four nights, and by day two, the front desk guy was asking how my morning coffee was. That’s either really good training or they genuinely care, and I’m leaning toward the latter. The rooms have this lived-in elegance that you don’t get at newer properties. My bathroom had these blue and white tiles that reminded me of traditional coastal houses, except the shower pressure was absolutely fantastic (which, let’s be real, can make or break a trip). The beds are proper firm – not that squishy hotel standard that leaves you feeling like you slept in quicksand.

What I really appreciate is that they don’t try to be something they’re not. The 4-star rating feels earned rather than aspirational, if that makes sense. The restaurant downstairs serves this incredible seafood risotto that locals actually eat – I saw the same couple there three times during my stay, and they clearly weren’t tourists. There’s a small terrace where you can have your morning espresso, and honestly, watching the fishing boats head out around 6 AM became part of my routine. Parking can be a bit tight during peak season (I was there in July), but the concierge helped me find a spot about two blocks away that was way cheaper than the hotel garage anyway. The only minor complaint I’d have is that the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty on the upper floors, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise. The 8.7 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the coast, but everything they do, they do really well. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentic rather than manufactured, and you want to wake up to the sound of actual waves rather than traffic, this is your spot.
