So here's the thing about Apartman Marija – it's one of those places that completely surprised me in the best way possible.
So here’s the thing about Apartman Marija – it’s one of those places that completely surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a 3-star rating makes you lower your expectations? Well, honestly, this place punches way above its weight class. I mean, a 9 rating doesn’t just happen by accident.
The location on XVI Ulica is actually perfect if you know Budva at all. You’re tucked away from the madness of the Old Town crowds (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in July and August when it gets absolutely mental down there), but it’s still just a solid 10-minute walk to all the action. What I really loved is that you can actually get some sleep here – none of that thumping bass from beachside clubs that keeps you up until 4 AM. The street itself is quiet, residential, the kind of place where locals live, which always feels more authentic to me than staying right in the tourist bubble.
Marija – and yes, you’ll probably meet her, she’s incredibly hands-on – has created something special here. The apartments feel more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel room. Everything’s thoughtfully done without being fancy for fancy’s sake. The kitchenettes are actually functional (I made coffee every morning and even attempted some local cheese and bread breakfasts), and there’s this attention to cleanliness that you notice immediately. You know what really impressed me? The little touches – decent Wi-Fi that actually works, proper shower pressure, and windows that open wide enough to get that amazing Adriatic breeze flowing through.
Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Budva, but Marija sorted that out for us with a quick phone call – she knows all the local tricks. The building itself is typical Montenegrin residential style, nothing flashy from the outside, but inside it’s been renovated with genuine care. I stayed in late September when the summer chaos was winding down, and honestly, it felt like discovering a local secret. You’re close enough to walk to Slovenska Beach in about 15 minutes, but you could also easily explore some of the quieter spots that most tourists miss entirely.
The whole experience just felt… right, you know? Like when you find a place that gets the balance between being welcoming and giving you space to do your own thing. Marija’s there if you need recommendations (and she has great ones – she pointed us toward this tiny konoba that served the best seafood risotto I had in Montenegro), but she’s not hovering or pushing tours on you. It’s that sweet spot of hospitality that makes you want to come back, which probably explains why half the guests seemed to be repeat visitors chatting with her like old friends.
