You know what caught me off guard about Apartman Matea? It’s tucked right there on Becicka plaza in Rafailovici, but somehow manages to feel like this quiet little secret despite being so close to everything. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from some of the best beach spots between Budva and Sveti Stefan, but when you’re sitting on your balcony in the evening, it doesn’t feel touristy or overwhelming.

The whole setup is honestly more thoughtful than most places I’ve stayed along the Montenegrin coast. Matea – and I’m pretty sure that’s the owner’s name because she actually seems to care about the details – has these apartments that feel like someone’s home rather than generic hotel rooms. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent pots, which is rare, trust me. And the Wi-Fi works everywhere, even out on the terrace where you’ll probably end up spending most of your time anyway. The bathrooms are updated too, with good water pressure – something you can’t take for granted around here, especially during peak summer when half of Serbia descends on Budva.

What really sold me on the place though is the location intelligence, if that makes sense. You’re far enough from the main Budva chaos that you can actually sleep at night (the sound of waves is about all you’ll hear), but close enough that you can walk to Slovenska Plaza or catch a bus to the old town without any hassle. There’s this little path that cuts down to the beach that most tourists never find – locals use it all the time. And honestly, the parking situation is way better than anything you’ll find closer to Budva proper. During July and August when everything else is completely packed, you can still find a spot here without circling for twenty minutes. The 9.6 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s those little things that add up. Like how the air conditioning actually cools the whole apartment, not just one corner. Or how checkout is flexible if you’re catching an evening flight. Matea even gave us tips about which restaurants in Rafailovici are worth it (skip the fancy-looking ones right on the water – overpriced and mediocre) and which beach clubs rent umbrellas for reasonable prices.

  I had an amazing stay at Marjia’s apartment. She was incredibly accommodating, responding to all my questions even before I arrived. She allowed us to check in early at 8am due to our bus schedule and gave us a late check-out until 6pm. The apartment was clean, cozy, and well-equipped with everything we asked for, including extra blankets and kitchen items. The location is perfect, with shops and the beach just a few minutes away. A complimentary bottle of wine and the soothing sound of a fountain from the veranda were lovely touches. Highly recommend!
