When I first pulled up to Apartmani Mendula, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this three-star property tucked away in Lastva Grbaljska. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come when you least expect them. The building itself is modest — nothing flashy — but there’s something immediately welcoming about the way it sits quietly in this residential area just outside Budva. The fact that there’s free parking right on-site was already a win in my book, especially after dealing with the chaos of finding a spot in Budva’s old town earlier that day.

The Apartment Experience

I stayed in one of their apartments, and I mean, calling it just an apartment feels a bit understated. The space was genuinely spacious — not one of those cramped European “studios” where you can touch both walls at once. The kitchen was actually functional, with proper appliances and enough counter space to prepare real meals, which saved me a fortune during my week-long stay. The living area flows naturally into the sleeping space, and while the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, everything felt clean and thoughtfully arranged. What really impressed me was how quiet it was — you’d never guess you’re this close to one of Montenegro’s busiest coastal towns.

Location Magic

Here’s where Apartmani Mendula really shines, and I think this is why couples rate the location so highly. You’re literally five minutes by car from Budva’s beaches and nightlife, but you get to escape to this peaceful residential pocket when you need to recharge. Lastva Grbaljska feels like authentic Montenegro — you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, small family-run shops, and none of the tourist circus. I actually discovered some incredible hiking trails that start practically from the property’s doorstep, winding up into the hills with views that’ll make you forget all about the crowded beaches below.

Practical Perks

The owners clearly understand what travelers actually need. Free WiFi that actually works? Check. Air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter? Check. A washing machine tucked into the bathroom that saved me from packing two weeks’ worth of clothes? Absolutely.

The room had plenty of storage space, which sounds boring but trust me, after living out of a suitcase for days, having proper closets and drawers makes all the difference. Plus, there’s a small balcony where I spent most mornings with coffee, watching the mountains wake up in the distance.

You get genuine value, peace and quiet when you want it, and easy access to everything Budva offers without paying resort prices or dealing with resort crowds. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about having your own little retreat in the hills while still being close enough to enjoy spontaneous beach days or evening strolls through Budva’s old town.

  Clean rooms.
  Everything is new inside.
  Owners are the best.
  The location is convenient in terms of traffic jams – in the morning you can leave without problems, in the evening you can quickly arrive. (It depends on your destination)

  We enjoyed stayiny at this property. 10-15 minutes drive to Budva center. Nice beaches 5 minutes away. There were a couple of supermarkets and Bakery very close to this apartment. Comfortable beds and pillows, air con was a bit noisy at a times but worked perfectly. Bathroom has a nice space and a big shower area with excellent water pressure. Good wifi signal.Parking space was very big and secure. The host was friendly and accommodating.
  
  What could be improved: It was a bit difficult to find the property. It has a billboard but we didn't see it coming from Budva. Since it's facing the other direction. Kitchen area was very small. We just had breakfast there No space for cooking a meal really but there are good restaurants around the area and very good price too so not a biggie.

  Hosts were super nice and friendly. Had a nice chat, tried good rakija and even gifted us few of their home grown vegetables and fruits. Apartment is perfect size and has everything you need. Location is little secluded so be ready to use your car a lot but also very quiet for relaxing evenings and nights. It is actually possible to reach shop/bakery even beach by foot (has sidewalk all the way from apt. to beach). Would strongly recommend for families and couples who like more privacy and outside seating to enjoy (great for kids).

  The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped, it had everything we needed for a short stay! A lot of parking space, there was a shop nearby. Close to both Budva and Kotor by car. We really enjoyed our stay!

  The apartmemt is in a village, 10 minutes driving from Budva. It is clean, cosy and has a small kitchen. The host is friendly and helpful. Kotor is 25 km away. From the apt. you can access different beaches.

  The owners welcomed us very well, with a typical drink of the country made by them. Flat completely independent from the rest of the house. New flat with good quality materials.
