You know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you. Apartment Butua is exactly that kind of spot – honestly, I almost walked past it the first time because it doesn’t scream “look at me” from the street. But man, am I glad I didn’t.

The thing about this place is that it feels like staying at a friend’s apartment, if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and actually cared about the details that matter. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of… I don’t know, authenticity? Like someone actually lives here and thinks about things like good lighting and comfortable seating. The owner – and I’m pretty sure it’s family-run – clearly gets that travelers want space to breathe. You’re not cramped into some cookie-cutter hotel room where you’re bumping into furniture every time you turn around. There’s actually room to spread out your stuff, which is something you don’t realize you miss until you have it again.

What really gets me is how they’ve nailed all the little things that other places mess up. The Wi-Fi actually works (I mean really works, not that barely-there signal most places try to pass off). The shower has proper water pressure – honestly, after a long day of walking around, that’s worth its weight in gold. And the kitchen setup is legit functional, not just there for show. I ended up cooking a few meals because, well, the local market nearby had all this incredible fresh stuff, and it felt natural to just grab some ingredients and make something simple. Try doing that in a standard hotel room.

The location is sort of perfect in that understated way. You’re not right in the middle of the tourist chaos, but you’re close enough that nothing feels like a trek. I’d walk out in the morning, grab coffee from this little spot around the corner (the locals seem to love it, which is always a good sign), and just kind of ease into the day. Evenings were quiet – like, actually quiet, not just “city quiet” where you’re still hearing traffic all night. The building itself has that solid, settled feel that tells you it’s been around and will keep being around.

Here’s the thing though – and this might sound weird – staying here made me realize how much I’d gotten used to places that feel temporary and generic. This felt like a real space in a real neighborhood, where people actually live their lives. The rating of 9.8 makes total sense once you’re there, because it’s doing everything it promises without any of the usual hotel nonsense. No weird check-in procedures, no nickel-and-diming, no trying to upsell you on stuff you don’t need. Just a really solid, comfortable place that lets you settle in and actually enjoy wherever you are instead of just enduring your accommodations. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
