The apartments themselves have this lived-in comfort that feels authentic rather than sterile – wooden floors that creak just a little, balconies where you can hear the morning birds before the day gets too hot, and kitchenettes that are actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the local market instead of eating out every meal. The owners clearly know their stuff too; check-in was surprisingly smooth, and they had these little touches like local coffee in the kitchen and maps with hand-drawn notes about which beaches get crowded when.

What really sells me on this place is how it sits in the neighborhood. Mainski Put isn’t where the tour buses dump everyone – it’s where you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning and kids playing football in the small squares. There’s this family-run bakery about a five-minute walk away that does these incredible burek pastries (the cheese ones, definitely get the cheese ones), and the pathway down toward the coast gives you these glimpses of the Adriatic through the olive trees that honestly beat any postcard. Sure, the building itself isn’t going to win architecture awards, and the WiFi can be a bit temperamental during peak hours, but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that prioritizes comfort over Instagram moments. The apartment I had faced inland rather than toward the water, which I thought I’d regret, but those mountain views at sunset? Actually pretty spectacular, and way quieter than the sea-facing rooms at other places I’ve tried.
