You know what surprised me about Apartments Mara? It’s one of those places that completely overdelivers on what you’d expect from a 3-star spot. I mean, when I first heard the name, I honestly thought it might be some generic apartment complex that just decided to rent rooms to tourists – but it’s actually got this really welcoming, family-run feel that you don’t find everywhere.

The apartments themselves are way more spacious than most hotel rooms you’ll get at this price point. We’re talking actual living areas where you can spread out your stuff without tripping over suitcases, and kitchenettes that are properly equipped (not just a mini-fridge and a sad coffee maker). The beds are comfortable – like, legitimately good sleep comfortable, not just “well, it’s better than a hostel” comfortable. What really got me was the attention to small details… fresh towels that actually smell clean, decent water pressure in the shower, and windows that open properly so you can get some real air circulation going.

Honestly, the 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing – check-in was smooth, they were helpful with local recommendations without being pushy, and when we had a minor issue with the TV remote, someone was up to fix it within like twenty minutes. It’s not fancy or flashy, but everything just works the way it’s supposed to. The location puts you close enough to the action that you’re not stuck in some tourist dead zone, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with constant street noise at night. I slept really well there, which – let’s be honest – is half the battle when you’re traveling. If you’re looking for a place where you can actually relax and feel at home instead of just crash between sightseeing, this is definitely worth considering.

  The host was very nice and friendly – she greeted us even if we were very late to arrive (much later than the previously communicated time), she helped her with some issues that we did have with our car, and was very helpful and friendly with any questions we had!
  The property is well-located, close to beach, many shops, restaurants, bars around (although quite some walk to the old town and the main streets).
  The house was clean and well taken care of!
  If you speak German (preferred language of the host), it could be a good idea calling first before booking and discussing the rooms available and information about them!
  
  What could be improved: There were no chairs in the room, only in the balcony (although the rest of furniture and facilities were fine!).
  Towels and bedding were rather old, not soft at all, it was not an issue for us (also because we had our own towels), but could be a problem for those travelling with kids.
  There was some unpleasant smell coming from the toilet pipes.
  Also, the parking situation was complicated – some neighbours are allowed to park in the property as well, and they usually block the exit of the garage. It is not a major issue since it was always quite easy to find the owner and ask to remove the car (also, it is actually quite luxury to have parking in that area since streets are all very full during the peak season and finding parking is literally mission impossible). However, it still takes additional 10-20 minutes each time + some stress, and the neighbours dont speak any foreign language.

  Location was great. Close to the promenade, the owner was well organised and helped us park our car get internet and get comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: We are both quite tall and the ceiling was slanted so we found it a bit difficult to move around the room.
