You know what struck me first about Apartments Mare?
You know what struck me first about Apartments Mare? It’s tucked away on Velji Vinogradi street, which honestly sounds more intimidating than it actually is – I mean, most visitors panic when they see Montenegrin street names, but this one’s pretty easy to find once you get your bearings. The location is actually brilliant because you’re close enough to hear the buzz from Budva’s old town (maybe a 10-minute walk downhill), but far enough up that you’re not dealing with the late-night party crowds stumbling around at 3 AM.
The apartments themselves have that unpretentious, lived-in feel that I’ve come to really appreciate in this part of Montenegro. They’re not trying to be some fancy resort – it’s more like staying at a friend’s place who happens to have great taste and actually cares about comfort. The kitchenettes are properly equipped, not just for show, which matters when you’re buying those amazing tomatoes and cheese from the morning market in Budva and want to make a real breakfast. I loved how the balconies face different directions depending on which unit you get, so some mornings you’re watching the sun come up over the hills, other times you’re getting that afternoon light that makes everything look golden. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building (not always a given around here), and there’s decent parking – which, trust me, is worth its weight in gold during July and August when finding a spot anywhere near central Budva becomes a full-contact sport.
What really sells this place for me is how the owners seem to understand what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. The beds are comfortable enough that you’re not thinking about your back, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and – this is key – the hot water pressure is solid even during peak season when half of Serbia seems to be vacationing in Montenegro. The 8.2 rating makes complete sense because it delivers on the fundamentals without any pretense. You’re getting authentic Budva vibes without paying old town prices, plus you can actually sleep at night. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because, well, why complicate things when you’ve found something that just works?
