Apartments MIK5 – Famous Beach Jaz

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartments MIK5, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this little spot near Jaz Beach absolutely did that. The building itself is pretty straightforward, nothing fancy, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it that I actually appreciated after staying at some overly glossy places in Montenegro.

What really won me over was the location – and I mean, when they say “Famous Beach Jaz,” they’re not kidding around. You’re literally a stone’s throw from one of the most gorgeous stretches of coastline on the Budva Riviera. I could hear the waves from my apartment window at night (which was either soothing or slightly annoying depending on how tired I was, honestly). The beach gets absolutely packed during July and August – I’m talking shoulder-to-shoulder crowds – but if you head out early morning or late afternoon, you’ll have these incredible moments where it’s just you and that crystal-clear Adriatic water. The apartments themselves are clean and functional, nothing Instagram-worthy but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some “luxury” places I’ve stayed. The kitchenette was actually useful too, not just decorative, and there’s a decent-sized balcony where I ended up spending most of my evenings with a bottle of local wine watching the sunset paint the water different shades of gold.

Here’s the thing though – this area gets busy, and I mean really busy during peak season. The road leading to Jaz can be a bit of a nightmare with traffic, especially on weekends when half of Serbia seems to descend on the coast. Parking isn’t terrible but you’ll want to claim your spot early if you’re driving. The walk into Budva’s old town takes about 20 minutes along the coastal path, which is beautiful but can be scorching in the midday sun, so pack water. What I loved most was stumbling onto this tiny konoba (local tavern) just five minutes away that served the most incredible black risotto – the kind of place you’d never find unless you were staying in the neighborhood. The staff at MIK5 were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, and they gave me some solid recommendations for avoiding the tourist traps. That 8.3 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. If you’re looking for a reliable base to explore this stunning part of the coast without paying resort prices, and you don’t need marble bathrooms or a concierge, this place delivers exactly what you need.
