You know what struck me first about Apartments Petkovic? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly what I loved about it. The building sits in this quiet residential pocket of Budva where you’ll actually hear birds in the morning instead of just traffic, which is pretty rare once you’re dealing with Montenegro’s coast during peak season.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I mean, we’re talking about proper living space here, not those cramped hotel rooms where you’re bumping into each other trying to get dressed. Each unit has a little kitchenette that’s actually functional (shocking, I know), and the owner, who I’m guessing is part of the Petkovic family, seems to really care about the details. Fresh linens, decent water pressure, and – this might sound small but it matters – the WiFi actually works consistently. The balconies aren’t huge, but there’s something nice about having your morning coffee outside while the town’s still waking up. You’ll catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the buildings if you crane your neck just right.

What really won me over was the whole vibe of staying here versus the bigger hotel complexes closer to the Old Town. Sure, you’re maybe a 12-minute walk to Budva’s main beaches and the medieval walls, but that distance is actually a blessing. You get to see how locals live – there’s this little bakery about three blocks down where the smell of fresh burek drifts out around 7 AM, and you’ll pass the same elderly gentleman walking his tiny dog every morning at exactly 8:15. The neighborhood has character, you know? Plus, parking is infinitely easier here than anywhere near the tourist center, which anyone who’s driven in Budva during July will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s honest accommodation that delivers exactly what it promises, and sometimes that’s worth more than marble bathrooms and fancy lobbies that jack up the price for no real reason.

  The apartment is clean and close to the beaches and the old town.

  Room was very clean, spacious, and had a great terrace. Great location and the building was quiet at night.
  
  What could be improved: I only had two issues with the property. The first was that the on-site property rep who provided keys and took payment did not speak any English at all. I am not criticizing her as I was traveling to her country, but her lack of English made checking in more difficult than other rentals i visited in Montenegro. Given the large number of English speaking tourists in Budva, she may want to pick up a bit of English or invest in a handheld translation device. The second issue was that the bracket which allows you to use the shower head hands free was broken so I had to hold it throughout the duration of each shower.

  Very nice hostess, after there was a problem with the reservation, she solved it immediately. The room was spacious and clean.
  
  What could be improved: Sadly they didn't have a room for 5 so we stayed in a room for 4, but that wasn't the hosts fault. Also there were a lot of mosquitos in the bathroom so they should invest in some kind of net for windows.
