That turned out to be exactly why I ended up loving it. The building sits quietly in this residential area just outside Budva proper, and while it might not have the flashy lobby of those beachfront hotels, there’s something refreshingly authentic about the whole setup. The owner, who I’m guessing is part of the Radonjic family, actually gave me directions in broken English mixed with enthusiastic hand gestures, which somehow worked perfectly.

What really won me over was the apartment itself – and I mean, calling it just a “3-star” place feels like they’re underselling themselves a bit. The space was genuinely spacious (not that cramped hotel room nonsense), with a proper kitchenette that actually had decent cookware, which is rare. The balcony overlooks the neighborhood, and on clear mornings you can catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the houses. Sure, it’s not a direct sea view, but honestly, the trade-off is worth it – you’re maybe a 10-minute walk down to the coast, but you’re paying probably half what those waterfront places charge. Plus, there’s this little bakery about two blocks away that locals hit up for morning burek, and the smell of fresh bread drifting through the streets at 7 AM is better than any room service menu.

The practical stuff matters too, and this place gets it right in ways that surprised me. Parking is actually available (try finding that in central Budva during summer), the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the air conditioning works without sounding like a helicopter landing. I stayed there in late June, which is when things start getting crazy busy around Budva, but Lastva Grbaljska stays relatively quiet – you’ll hear some neighborhood sounds, maybe someone’s TV or kids playing outside, but it’s the kind of background noise that actually makes you feel like you’re experiencing real Montenegro, not just some sanitized tourist bubble. The 8.6 rating makes total sense when you factor in the value proposition here. It’s not luxury, but it’s comfortable, clean, and the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and actually live a bit instead of just crashing between beach sessions.
