I mean, step outside and you’ve got all the Old Town chaos within walking distance, but back at the hotel it feels like someone’s well-kept secret.

The thing about staying here is that it’s clearly family-run, and you can tell they actually care about the details. My room was spotless (I’m talking about checking behind the curtains level of clean), and the bed was one of those firm-but-not-too-firm situations that had me sleeping better than I do at home. The shower pressure was surprisingly good – you know how hit-or-miss that can be in smaller European hotels. What really got me though was how quiet it stays at night. Budva can get pretty rowdy, especially during summer when the clubs are going until dawn, but somehow this place stays peaceful. I think it’s the way they’ve positioned the building and all those trees acting as a natural sound buffer.

The staff here actually remembers your name, which sounds cheesy but it’s not – they genuinely seem to enjoy what they’re doing. When I asked about getting to Sveti Stefan (because honestly, the bus situation in Montenegro can be confusing), they didn’t just give me directions, they called their friend who runs a taxi service and got me a fair price. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t fake. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but everything’s fresh and they make proper coffee – not that watery stuff you get at some three-star places. Plus, they’ve got local honey that’s ridiculously good and some homemade jam that I may have put on everything. The garden area where you eat is perfect for morning coffee; there’s this spot where you can see glimpses of the Adriatic through the trees, and in the early hours before Budva wakes up, it’s just perfect. Look, it’s not fancy in that polished chain hotel way, but it’s got character and the kind of genuine hospitality that makes you want to come back.
