Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “BigMontenegro Shine,” I was expecting something a bit flashy, maybe even tacky. But you know what? This 3-star place completely surprised me in the best way possible. Sometimes the hotels with quirky names turn out to be the hidden gems, and that’s exactly what happened here.

The thing that gets me about this place is how it punches way above its weight class. I mean, we’re talking about a 9.4 rating here, which is honestly impressive for any hotel, let alone a mid-range one. The moment you walk in, there’s this genuine warmth from the staff that you can’t fake – they actually seem happy you’re there, not just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth (no awkward waiting around in the lobby), and they knew their stuff when I asked about local restaurants. The rooms themselves have this comfortable, lived-in feeling without being worn down, if that makes sense. Clean sheets that actually smell fresh, decent water pressure in the shower, and – this is key for me – proper blackout curtains that actually work when you need to sleep in.

What really sold me on the place, though, was all the little details that show someone’s actually paying attention. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like so many places, there’s always hot coffee in the lobby (not that burnt stuff that’s been sitting there for hours), and the housekeeping staff somehow manages to clean your room without making it feel like strangers rearranged all your stuff. I stayed there during what seemed like a busy period, but it never felt chaotic or overwhelmed. The breakfast spread was solid – nothing fancy, but fresh bread, decent coffee, and real butter instead of those weird plastic packets. Plus, and this might sound minor but it’s not, the elevators actually come when you press the button. You’d be amazed how many places can’t get that right. The neighborhood itself has this authentic feel to it; you’re not stuck in some tourist bubble, but you’re also not wondering if you should be walking around after dark. I found myself actually looking forward to coming back to the hotel each evening, which doesn’t happen often. For the price point, honestly, I can’t think of much to complain about – maybe the TV could use an upgrade, but who’s really watching hotel television anyway?
