First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Grbalj, you’ll notice it sits right on Trg Sunca — which honestly translates to Sun Square, and that pretty much tells you everything about Budva’s sunny disposition. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does well is put you smack in the middle of Montenegro’s most popular coastal town. The building has that Mediterranean charm you’d expect, though it’s the location that really makes you stop and think “okay, this was a smart choice.”
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Budva — location is everything, and Hotel Grbalj absolutely nails it. You’re in what locals and visitors consistently rate as the best area in town, which explains that impressive 8.9 location score. The Old Town is literally a few minutes’ walk away, and I mean the kind of walk where you’re already planning your evening stroll before you’ve even unpacked. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location 8.2), probably because there’s something romantic about being able to wander to waterfront restaurants without needing a taxi or dealing with parking drama.
The Rooms
The accommodations are what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, comfortable, and functional without any unnecessary frills. What I appreciated most was how the rooms feel authentically Montenegrin rather than trying to copy some generic international hotel style. You’ll have everything you need for a good night’s sleep, and honestly, when you’re this close to Budva’s beaches and nightlife, you’re probably not spending much time in the room anyway. The windows let in plenty of that Mediterranean light, which makes morning coffee feel like a small daily celebration.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast setup here actually impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got continental options covered, but what’s really thoughtful is how they handle vegetarian and vegan guests — something that can be hit-or-miss in this part of the Balkans. You know what I mean, sometimes “vegetarian” in Montenegro means “we’ll pick the meat out,” but Hotel Grbalj seems to actually understand what plant-based travelers need. The spread isn’t huge, but it’s done well, and there’s something satisfying about starting your day with local flavors before heading out to explore.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that matters. The 7.1 rating reflects exactly what this hotel is — a reliable, well-located base for exploring Budva without breaking the bank. You’re paying for that prime location and the freedom it gives you to experience the town like a local rather than a tourist stuck in some resort bubble. When you can walk to the beach, the Old Town, and the best restaurants without planning your day around transportation, that’s when a vacation starts feeling effortless.
Apartments in Budva provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional Montenegrin markets and cook with fresh Mediterranean ingredients.

Amazing it was great location. The breakfast was good. The stuff were nice and kind. The rooms were very clean and in very good condition.
Good Well it didn't start off too well but I think that was due to booking.com with the hotel not aware I was coming but luckily I had the confirmation email on my app and I had to wait a very short time while the hotel sorted it out with booking.com thank you to the hotel for doing that the staff were nice and friendly the location was great for me just a couple of minutes from the bus station plus a bonus for beer lovers a great bar called bura pub 6 minutes walk away
What could be improved: apart from the start all good
Good Conveniently located walking distance to a bus station which was what I needed. The hotel provided onsite car park. I’ve been offered a late check out so was very grateful. Old fashion decor alert! 😉
I stay at this hotel every year. It was great as always! Everything was perfect. I stay at this hotel every year. It was great as always! Everything was perfect.
modest but good Breakfast was good. Restaurant proposed variety of dishes and not in the morning only. Great palinka and grilled meat with vegetables.
What could be improved: minor problems were with warm water during the first day, but it was not for a long time. TV had only programs in Serbian language, but it is not im[portant , as the sea was not far from the hotel
Comfortable and clean hotel Amazing hotel so close to lots of shops, restaurants, the bus station, walk into the old town etc.
Breakfast was good. Super friendly staff and my room was very clean and comfortable. It was the perfect place to explore!
What could be improved: Not sure if there was a restaurant or not as other people were eating but when I asked for the menu, they said no.
No tea and coffee facilities in the room as advertised and the hairdryer didn't work in my room.
But it was no big deal as I found a lovely coffee shop in the old town.
Pleasant Neat the bus station, quiet, basic but fine room
Value for money. Good for transit/one-night Just a couple minutes walk from the main bus station, the hotel will probably the best choice for those who wanna be the closest to the station.
Most standard rooms come with a balcony. Single room is more like a make-shift room just enough for a single bed and a wardrobe at the very end of the top floor with no window (only one window in the bathroom) and balcony (but the plus side is you get the least noise disruption). Not a huge issue for one-nighter as the A/C can compensate the ventilation.
What could be improved: The hotel cant hold luggage after check-out (the restaurant attached to the hotel can't hold luggage either), so you need to figure out yourself between 11am check-out and your next bus departure.
There is no 24/7 reception but the restaurant staff would help with check in/out.
Fits Expectations, Good Value Good breakfast. Nice location if you don't mind a little walk -- especially at this price in Budva. Nothing uncomfortable about the room or hotel.
What could be improved: The room is a bit dated. There was some confusion about the room number on the key and in the course of correcting it I got a lesser room than the one the first key went to -- though it might have been the proper room in the first place.
Good The cuisine was good. The breakfast was satisfying. Also, the hotel has a restaurant with a good selection and reasonable prices. The portions were also enough to fill you up. Would definitely recommend the restaurant.
The stuff was friendly and helpful. The location was okay, 15 m walk to the nearest beach, about half an hour walk to the old town.
What could be improved: The bathroom needs some renovation. Some of the staff was old, like the shower head, the door handle. Also, it is important to have different sizes of towels for face and showering. Sometimes, each guest was provided with one towel, sometimes with two towels of the same size.
