Hotel Description

Honestly, Hotel Riva caught me off guard in the best way possible. I mean, when you’re driving down Slovenska Obala – which is basically Budva’s main coastal drag – you pass a bunch of places that look pretty similar from the outside. But there’s something about Riva that just feels more… settled, I guess? Like it’s been here long enough to figure out what actually works.

The location is pretty sweet, actually. You’re close enough to Old Town Budva that you can walk there in about ten minutes (though fair warning – it’s uphill on the way back, and after a few drinks at those medieval wall bars, you’ll definitely feel it). What I really appreciated was being just far enough from the main party zone that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it’s solidly good without being flashy about it, you know? The staff genuinely seems to care, which honestly isn’t always a given in Montenegro’s beach towns during peak season. Check-in was smooth, they actually remembered my name the next day, and when I mentioned I was having trouble finding decent coffee nearby, the front desk guy pointed me toward this little local spot that definitely wasn’t in any guidebook.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star place – clean, comfortable beds that don’t creak when you move, and the AC actually works (crucial during July and August when Budva turns into an oven). The bathrooms are updated, which matters more than you might think given how many older coastal hotels still have those tiny shower stalls from the ’90s. What really won me over were the small touches – decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, blackout curtains that actually block the morning sun, and enough outlets near the bed for all your devices. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak season, but they’ve got it sorted better than most places along this stretch. You might have to circle the block once or twice in July, but it’s not the nightmare you’ll face closer to the marina. The breakfast situation is solid too – nothing fancy, but fresh local stuff and proper coffee, which is really all you need before heading down to the beaches. Honestly, Hotel Riva feels like the kind of place that gets it right without making a big deal about it, and in a town that can feel pretty touristy and overpriced, that’s exactly what you want.

Hotel in Budva booking should be done early, especially during summer season when the city hosts internationally popular music festivals and beach parties.

Reviews

  • Good price performance Hotel – Ahmet from Turkey – July 8, 2025 (9/10)

Very good location, walking distance to many places.
    Clean, comfortable, wide rooms.

What could be improved: Need electric socket at bathroom and working desk.

  • Could be a great hotel when they sort out all the issues – Karen from Australia – July 6, 2025 (7/10)

Great location, large rooms, comfortable bed, good airconditioning

What could be improved: Most power points didn’t work and they were placed in unusual places, no power points near mirrors, the shower leaks, a sensor light over the bed that flashed blue light whenever someone moved (they covered it in foil in one of our rooms booked), having to lug suitcases up a flight of stairs to get to reception because the elevator that is there does not go to the street level hotel entry, safe not secured so easily removed from room, they are building another floor in top so there is construction noise during the day

  • Great location, beautiful rooms – Lara from Australia – July 2, 2025 (7/10)

Great location, new fit out, lovely decor

What could be improved: Bathroom floor flooded, No lift, Still working on hotel so a bit noisy through the day

  • Clean and spacious room in a perfect location – Jarune from Lithuania – May 6, 2025 (9/10)

The room was very clean and quite spacious. There was no issue setting up a baby cot, and the main bed was especially large. The location is excellent – right next to the old town and marina.

What could be improved: It would have been nice to have a kettle for making coffee.

  • Good – Momen from United Kingdom – April 25, 2025 (7/10)

    Location

What could be improved: AC not working

  • Perfect for short break – Shoma from United Kingdom – January 18, 2025 (7/10)

The room itself is lovely and spacious and very modern. It was very clean and the staff were lovely. The breakfast in the restaurant was nice too. It was in a great location.

What could be improved: The parking was not available which meant we couldn’t get our suitcase to the room.

  • We got several discounts so it was a great value. I wouldn't pay full price. – Frederick from Spain – November 5, 2024 (8/10)

Really liked the hotel in general. We stayed for a little over a week and had no issues. The staff at the front desk was really friendly. The room was very spacious and nice. The bed was comfortable, with good pillows and warm blankets. The room also had it's own AC which we could control, so that was a huge plus. The hotel is a great location, very close to the old town and some other touristic attractions. All in all, it was a great experience.

What could be improved: The breakfast had about 10 options for dishes, plus coffee, juice and water. Between my wife and I we tried every dish and only liked 2. The restaurant is Riva, you can look it up, the reviews about the food are not great, and we can attest to that. The room also didn't look too clean. The rug had some stains and the balcony door didn't lock.
