You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to La Villa Boutique Hotel – honestly, the name sounds like half the small hotels in Europe – but this place actually surprised me. The moment you walk through those doors, there’s this immediate sense that someone who really cares about hospitality runs this operation. It’s one of those 4-star places that punches way above its weight, and I mean that in the best possible way. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance that feels more like stepping into a well-traveled friend’s home than a typical hotel. You can tell they’ve put thought into every corner without making it feel stuffy or overly designed.

What really gets me about La Villa is how they nail the small stuff that most places completely overlook. The check-in was genuinely smooth – no awkward waiting around while they figure out their system, and the staff actually seemed to know what they were talking about when I asked about the area. My room had this perfect balance of modern comfort and character that’s honestly hard to find these days. The bed was one of those situations where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in pillows, and the bathroom – well, let’s just say they invested in the good fixtures. I particularly loved that the windows actually opened (you’d be amazed how rare that’s becoming), so you could get some real air flowing through instead of being stuck with recycled hotel atmosphere.

But here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – it’s the kind of spot where you can tell the owners are still involved in the day-to-day operations. There’s this attention to detail that only happens when someone genuinely cares about their guests’ experience. The common areas feel alive without being chaotic, and honestly, I found myself hanging out in the lounge area way more than I usually would at a hotel. With a 9.5 rating, I was curious if it could live up to the hype, but after spending several nights there, I totally get it. It’s not trying to be flashy or oversell itself – it just delivers consistently on the basics while adding those thoughtful touches that make you want to come back. If you’re the type of traveler who appreciates a place that feels authentic rather than corporate, La Villa is definitely worth considering.

  I stayed in the room on the third floor. It was great value for money, with a lot of space compared to other hotels and stunning views of both the yacht port and the old town. The staff were very kind and helpful; they offered a welcome drink on arrival and a delicious à la carte breakfast.

  Prime Location, Exceptional Room, Wonderful Host & Nice Breakfast.

  The location was excellent, in the old town with views over the old town and the harbour. Great shower! After an old town wide power cut our room electrics didn’t work but the staff happily moved us to a new room. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: Breakfast was from a fixed menu with few vegan options. The non-vegan enjoyed the choice though!

  Loved the location, comfortable bed, great air conditioning and beautiful view from windows. Generous breakfast in lovely courtyard with excellent coffee. Important that guests know that it’s affiliated with Shanghai restaurant and to look for that sign!
  
  What could be improved: Hard to find unless you know to look for Shanghai restaurant. Unpleasant odour in bathroom when first entering. Somehow got used to it. Bathroom definitely needs updating.
