You know, I was honestly skeptical when I first saw Hotel Luce tucked away on Petra I Petrovića street – I mean, how good could a 3-star place really be in Budva’s Old Town? But man, this little gem completely changed my mind about what a hotel rating actually means.

The thing is, Luce sits right in the heart of the medieval walls, which sounds romantic until you realize that means navigating those narrow cobblestone streets with your luggage. But here’s what nobody tells you – the hotel staff actually meets you at the Old Town entrance if you call ahead, and they’ll wheel your bags through those winding alleys so you don’t have to huffs and puff your way there. Smart, right? The location is absolutely perfect though – you’re literally steps away from the Citadela fortress and all those tiny restaurants where locals actually eat (not just the touristy spots along the marina). I could hear the gentle hum of evening conversations drifting up from the stone streets, but honestly, it was more charming than disruptive.

What really gets me about Luce is how they’ve managed to blend that old-world Montenegrin character with genuinely comfortable rooms. The stone walls are original – you can actually feel the history in the texture – but everything else is thoughtfully modern without being sterile. My room had this little balcony that looked out over the terracotta rooftops, and in the early morning, before the day-trippers arrive from Kotor, you could watch the Old Town wake up with just the locals going about their business. The shower pressure was surprisingly excellent (always a gamble in these historic buildings), and the air conditioning actually worked, which trust me, you’ll appreciate during those sweltering July afternoons when the stone streets turn into heat traps. The staff here really knows their stuff too – they pointed me toward this tiny bakery just outside Porta Budve where you can get fresh burek that’s honestly better than anything you’ll find in the main squares, and they helped me figure out the local bus schedule to Sveti Stefan without that rehearsed tourism-board enthusiasm you get elsewhere.

I mean, a 9.9 rating sounds almost too good to be true, but after staying here, I get it. It’s not about fancy amenities or marble lobbies – it’s about nailing all the details that actually matter when you’re exploring a place like Budva. You’re paying for that perfect location without the premium prices of the beachfront hotels, plus you get to experience the Old Town the way it’s meant to be experienced – as a living, breathing neighborhood rather than just a daytime tourist attraction. If you’re the type who wants to grab morning coffee from the same café as the fishermen heading out to work, rather than room service, this is absolutely your place.

  Great location, very clean and well equipped with all the random things you might need and appreciate during your stay (kitchen utensils, basic cooking ingredients, clothes pegs, super glue ect). Comfy bed, great shower & bathroom, and full kitchen.

  Firstly the location is amazing being right in the heart of old town is so wonderful to experience, the best beaches are 5 minutes walking, lots of restaurants and shops to explore and of course, the beauty of old town itself.
  The apartment was so clean and was well equipped. The shower was great too!
