Hotel Description
You know what? The Luxury Hotel Riva caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first roll up to this place in Budva, it’s not screaming “look at me” like some of the flashier spots along the coast, but there’s something really solid about it. The kind of hotel where you can tell they’ve put thought into the details without trying too hard to impress you.
I stayed there during shoulder season (honestly the best time to visit Montenegro if you ask me), and the whole experience just felt… comfortable. The lobby has this understated elegance thing going on – marble floors that don’t echo like crazy when you walk across them, which is surprisingly rare. Check-in was actually smooth, no weird holdups or confusing explanations about amenities you’ll never use. The staff genuinely seemed to know what they were doing, not just reciting scripts. My room had this view that sort of snuck up on you – you’d glance out the window and suddenly remember you’re right there on the Adriatic coast. The beds are properly comfortable too, not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you questioning your life choices.
What really won me over though was how the place sits in Budva itself. You’re close enough to wander into the old town whenever you want – I mean, it’s literally a few minutes’ walk – but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the late-night party crowd stumbling around outside your window. And honestly, that matters more than you’d think, especially during summer when Budva can get pretty intense. The hotel restaurant is actually worth eating at, which isn’t something I say lightly. They do this seafood thing that tastes like they actually know what they’re doing with fish, not just throwing it on a plate because tourists expect it. The breakfast spread was solid – proper coffee, local cheese and prosciutto, fresh bread that didn’t taste like cardboard. Simple stuff done right.
Look, it’s a 4-star place with a 7.9 rating, so we’re not talking about some life-changing luxury experience here. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a hotel that does its job really well without any drama. The pool area gets nice afternoon sun if you’re into that, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and parking wasn’t the nightmare it can be in some parts of Budva. I’d definitely stay there again, which for me is always the real test. It’s the kind of place where you can focus on exploring Montenegro instead of dealing with hotel nonsense, and honestly, that’s worth a lot more than fancy amenities you’ll never use anyway.

The room itself is lovely and spacious and very modern. It was very clean and the staff were lovely. The breakfast in the restaurant was nice too. It was in a great location.
What could be improved: The parking was not available which meant we couldn’t get our suitcase to the room.Frederick from Spain – 5 November 2024 (8/10)
Really liked the hotel in general. We stayed for a little over a week and had no issues. The staff at the front desk was really friendly. The room was very spacious and nice. The bed was comfortable, with good pillows and warm blankets. The room also had it's own AC which we could control, so that was a huge plus. The hotel is a great location, very close to the old town and some other touristic attractions. All in all, it was a great experience.
What could be improved: The breakfast had about 10 options for dishes, plus coffee, juice and water. Between my wife and I we tried every dish and only liked 2. The restaurant is Riva, you can look it up, the reviews about the food are not great, and we can attest to that. The room also didn't look too clean. The rug had some stains and the balcony door didn't lock.Abdullah from Turkey – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location. The room was big as all outdoors. Warm hospitality. Good breakfast.
What could be improved: The balcony overlooked the restaurant dumpster below. We couldn't keep the door open because of the smell.
