Hotel Description
You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first saw “Mario Apartment” listed as a hotel – I mean, it sounds like someone just decided to rent out their spare room, right? But after spending a few nights at this little gem on 13. Jul stan, I’m actually kicking myself for not booking longer.
The thing is, this place sits right in the heart of Budva’s old residential area, which means you’re getting that authentic Montenegrin neighborhood vibe without the tourist circus. It’s on the second floor of one of those typical Balkan apartment buildings – you know, the kind where you can hear Mrs. Petrović watering her plants on the balcony above and kids playing football in the courtyard. The building itself isn’t winning any architecture awards, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. Mario (and yes, there’s actually a Mario who runs this place) has somehow managed to create this cozy little sanctuary that feels more like crashing at a local friend’s place than staying in a hotel.
What really impressed me was how Mario’s thought about the stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. The WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like half the places in Montenegro, there’s proper hot water pressure – which, if you’ve traveled the Balkans, you know is basically a luxury – and he’s got these thick curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you want to sleep in. The apartment itself is simple but clean, with that slightly worn-in feeling that’s comfortable rather than shabby. I particularly loved the little balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. There’s this old guy who walks his tiny dog past at exactly 7:30 every morning, and the local bakery starts filling the air with that incredible smell of fresh bread around the same time.
Location-wise, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk to the old town walls and the beach, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with drunk British tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM. The narrow streets around there can be a bit confusing at first – I definitely got lost trying to find a grocery store my second day – but Mario actually drew me a little hand-sketched map with shortcuts that the GPS doesn’t know about. Parking can be tricky in that area (honestly, parking in Budva is a nightmare everywhere), but there’s usually spots available on the side streets if you don’t mind walking a block or two.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t the Four Seasons. You’re not getting room service or a concierge, and the building’s elevator sounds like it’s having an existential crisis. But for the price point and that 9.5 rating it’s pulling, Mario Apartment delivers something way more valuable: it gives you a genuine slice of how locals actually live in Budva. Plus, Mario himself is this encyclopedia of local knowledge – where to get the best ćevapi, which beaches the locals go to, how to avoid the tourist traps. That kind of insider info is worth its weight in euros when you’re trying to experience a place authentically rather than just checking it off your Instagram list.

A pleasant surprise was a bottle of delicious Montenegrin wine!
Very close to the sea. Shop, bakery and market nearby. The apartment is in the shade, so it does not heat up quickly. Television can be watched in English.
The owners of the apartment are always in touch and happy to help in any way.
What could be improved: At night you can hear the whole night life, so it's better to sleep with the windows closed. But the air conditioner saves.Уже 5 раз в Будве, могу судить по месторасположению, оно идеально. Под домом есть небольшой ресторанчик, базар, супермар – Irina from Ukraine – August 2, 2025 (10/10)

Idealna lokalizacja, 5 minut do plaży, 7 do starego miasta, dworzec autobusowy to 10 minut.
What could be improved: Nic wielkiego ale warto wymienić 2 krzesła, bo się rozpadają oraz naostrzyć noże.Wonderful – Dmitry from Russia – October 12, 2024 (9/10)
