Honestly, when I first pulled up to Maslina Residence, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star place – you know how those ratings can be hit or miss. But this little gem completely surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s something refreshing about a hotel that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone but instead focuses on doing the fundamentals really, really well.

The moment you walk through the entrance, you get this sense that someone actually cares about the details here. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but everything feels thoughtfully put together. The lobby has this warm, lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re staying at a well-appointed friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel chain. I actually ended up chatting with the front desk staff for a good fifteen minutes during check-in – they genuinely seemed interested in making sure I knew about the neighborhood, which streets to avoid during morning rush hour, that sort of local intel you can’t get from a guidebook.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to create this sense of intimacy without sacrificing professionalism. My room was spotless (I always check the bathroom first – old habit), and while it wasn’t huge, everything had been arranged so smartly that it felt spacious. The bed was actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given, and the blackout curtains were a godsend since I’m one of those people who can’t sleep with any light creeping in. You know what struck me most though? The little things – like how they’d positioned a reading chair by the window to catch the afternoon light, or how the shower had proper water pressure without being one of those aggressive fire-hose situations. These might sound like small details, but after staying in countless places where nobody seems to think about how people actually live in a space, it felt like a revelation. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, you might want to pack earplugs – but honestly, the neighborhood itself is pretty quiet, so it’s really just if you get unlucky with chatty neighbors.
