You know what caught me off guard about Mateja&Fontana Apartment? It’s one of those places that immediately feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than some sterile hotel room. I mean, with a 9.1 rating, I was expecting something decent, but honestly – this spot delivers in ways that bigger hotels just can’t match.

The apartment itself has this lived-in authenticity that I really appreciate. The hosts, Mateja and whoever handles the Fontana side of things, have clearly put thought into the small stuff that actually matters when you’re settling in somewhere new. The kitchen isn’t just for show – it’s actually equipped like someone cooks there regularly, which is refreshing after staying in places where you get one sad coffee pod and call it hospitality. The bathroom has that solid European functionality, and the shower pressure? Well, let’s just say I’ve stayed in five-star places with worse water pressure. There’s this attention to comfort that you notice after a long day of walking around – good lighting where you need it, outlets in logical places, and bedding that doesn’t feel like it came from a bulk supplier.

What really sells me on this place, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. I’m always skeptical when apartments don’t list their exact address upfront, but sometimes that’s just how local places operate, and honestly, the location works. You’re close enough to feel connected to what’s happening around you, but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually get some decent sleep. The morning sounds are more neighborhood coffee shops opening than tour buses rumbling past, if you know what I mean. Parking wasn’t a nightmare – and anyone who’s tried to navigate European city parking knows that’s saying something. The check-in process was smooth, none of that awkward waiting around in a lobby wondering if you’re in the right place. They’re clearly used to hosting people and have figured out how to make the whole experience feel effortless. I’d definitely stay here again, and that’s not something I say lightly – especially at this price point where you could easily end up somewhere forgettable.

  Elena, who is managing the apartment, is very kind, welcomed us during heavy rain in the evening and even brought us an umbrella to have it in case we go for a walk. We would book this apart again because of her.

  The location is excellent, premises are well equipped for short, but also for long stays. The contact person was more than helpful.

  Perfectly in the city center and close to the seaside, surrounded by restaurants and shopping mall. The apartment is big with all kind of useful tools.
  The transfer driver was always in time and super gentle to provide suggestions. The manager was responsive and helpful, he also agreed to provide a late check-out to facilitate our needs.
  Strongly recommended.

  The property was very comfortable and clean. Located near the city center, walk to Stari Grad take only 7 minutes. The best restaurants are nearly in two steps. 24h shop is one minute away.

  The host is very polite and nice. He also helped us to take transfer from and to the airport.
  Best option for family or couple vacation.
