You know what caught me off guard about Mountains Villa? The name actually undersells it – I mean, sure, it’s tucked into the hills above Budva, but what they don’t tell you is that you’re getting these incredible glimpses of the Adriatic between the pine trees. It’s maybe a 15-minute drive up from the old town (honestly, rent a car because the local buses are… well, let’s just say they run on Montenegrin time), but that little bit of distance makes all the difference. The moment you pull up, you’re hit with this mix of mountain air and that faint salt breeze – it’s like the best of both worlds without the chaos of staying right on the waterfront.

The whole place has this relaxed villa vibe that feels more like staying at a friend’s family place than a typical hotel. The rooms are spacious – I’m talking actual room to spread out your stuff, not those cramped beach hotel boxes – and they’ve got this understated elegance going on. Marble floors that stay cool even in July heat, and the beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, trust me). What really got me though was stepping onto the terrace in the morning with coffee. You’ve got this layered view: olive groves right below you, then Budva’s red rooftops, and beyond that the sea stretching toward Italy. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there too – they’d chat about local hiking trails or recommend this little family restaurant down in Lastva Grbaljska that doesn’t even have a proper sign.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a day to fully appreciate: you’re close enough to zip down to Budva’s beaches or that buzzing nightlife scene around the marina, but when you come back up the hill at night, it’s dead quiet except for cicadas and the occasional church bell from the village below. No thumping music, no drunk tourists stumbling around – just peace. The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you realize they’ve nailed that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility. Parking’s easy (which, if you’ve driven around coastal Montenegro in summer, you’ll know is basically a miracle), and they’ve got this casual breakfast setup on the main terrace where you’ll probably end up chatting with other guests about day trip plans. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but everything just works really well – from the AC that actually keeps rooms cool to the little touches like local honey at breakfast. Perfect for people who want to experience the Montenegro coast without feeling like they’re staying in a tourist factory.

  What a fabulous spot! The views are amazing, the gardens spectacular, and the villa and pool is absolutely lovely. Recommended if you like to escape to some peace and quiet in the mountains after soaking up the sun at the nearby beaches. The hosts were very welcoming, and sampling some home distilled gin is recommended!

  The location and layout of the property and the gardens was excellent. The actual location was a little further away from the beach than advertised but we wanted a place well away from the hustle and bustle. The hosts could not have been any more helpful, warm and kind. The garden and the pool were perfect with a stunning view over to the sea from the pool. The main house was immaculately clean and spacious. There are two double bedrooms and a third one in a separate room below the house. Due to having two grown up children we used the extra room which was very warm all day long and although there was no air conditioning we were given a very effective fan. Outside the house is a large patio area with bbq facilities and that great view.
  
  What could be improved: Unfortunately the oven wasn’t working, which made it a little awkward cooking for a family but nothing that couldn’t be overcome, a microwave would have been welcomed and a few more picnic glasses and plates for eating and drinking outside. I wouldn’t say these were dislikes but observations from a guests viewpoint. I have already passed these suggestions to the host.

  Die Villa bietet einen erstklassige Aussicht und eine hervorragende Ausstattung. Die Zimmer sind komfortabel und stilvoll eingerichtet, und die Gastgeber ist äußerst freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Lage des Hauses ladet zur Erholung ein. Wir hatte einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt und können diese Unterkunft nur wärmstens empfehlen!
