Hotel Description

Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Old Barkery” I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this place absolutely blew me away. It’s tucked away in what locals consider the most exclusive part of Budva, and you know what? They’re not wrong. The moment you walk in, there’s this incredible blend of old-world charm mixed with that unmistakable Adriatic sophistication that you just don’t find in the tourist traps closer to the main beach strip.

The thing about this place is that it actually feels exclusive without being pretentious about it – if that makes sense. I mean, you’ll notice right away that the other guests aren’t the typical package tour crowd. There’s this quiet confidence to the whole operation that reminds me why Montenegro has become such a hidden gem for people who really know the Balkans. The staff genuinely seems to care about the details (and trust me, after staying in dozens of hotels along this coast, that’s rarer than you’d think). They remember your name, they know exactly how you like your morning coffee, and honestly, the check-in was smoother than places charging twice as much in Dubrovnik.

What really sets Old Barkery apart though is the location – you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the chaos that hits Budva during peak summer months. I could actually sleep with the windows open, which is saying something considering how wild the nightlife gets in the old town. The mornings are particularly magical here; there’s this gentle sound of church bells mixing with seagulls that just makes you want to linger over breakfast longer than you planned. And speaking of breakfast, they source a lot of their ingredients locally – you can taste the difference in everything from the cheese to the honey. The whole complex has this authentic Montenegrin feel that developers are trying to recreate all over the coast, but this is the real deal. Sure, it’s a 4-star property on paper, but the experience feels much more personal and refined than those massive 5-star resorts that feel like hotels anywhere else in Europe. If you’re the type of traveler who values character over cookie-cutter luxury, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Budva through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best locations for experiencing the city’s beautiful coastline and rich history.

What could be improved: The parking was a bit of an issue due to the fact that we had to look around for a bit for a spot
