Onia Luxury Escape

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Onia Luxury Escape on Nikole Tesle, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. The street’s pretty quiet, which is actually perfect because you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the Budva Old Town craziness, but you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at 3am.

The thing about this place that really got me is how they’ve managed to nail the luxury vibe without being pretentious about it. I mean, the lobby feels more like walking into someone’s really well-designed home than a hotel – there’s this warmth that most places in Budva’s tourist center completely miss. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but honestly makes such a difference when you’re traveling. And parking? Yeah, they’ve got you covered, which anyone who’s tried to park in Budva during summer will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

What really sets Onia apart though is the attention to those little details that most travelers don’t think about until they’re missing. The water pressure is incredible (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Montenegro), the AC actually works without sounding like a helicopter landing, and – this might sound weird – but the towels smell amazing, like they’re using some kind of local lavender situation. The rooms have this perfect balance where they feel modern and clean but still have character, not like those sterile chain hotels you find everywhere. From my room, I could see a slice of the Adriatic between the buildings, and honestly, that little glimpse of blue water made my morning coffee ritual feel pretty special.

The location is what really sealed the deal for me though. You’re close enough to walk to Slovenska Beach in about eight minutes (I timed it), but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with the restaurant hawkers and beach vendors. There’s this little bakery around the corner – I think it’s on Mediteranska – that does these incredible burek pastries, and the hotel folks actually told me about it, which tells you they care about your experience beyond just the room. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond Budva, the bus station is super accessible, and getting to places like Kotor or Cetinje is straightforward.

I’ve stayed in a lot of places along the Montenegrin coast, and honestly, Onia punches way above its 3-star rating. It’s one of those spots where everything just works the way it should, without any fuss or drama. The kind of place where you actually look forward to coming back to at the end of a long day exploring, rather than just seeing it as somewhere to crash. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between comfort, location, and not breaking the bank, this is it.
