You know what caught me off guard about Rooftop Apartments & Rooms? The name actually undersells the place. I mean, sure, you’re getting that rooftop vibe – and honestly, the views from some of the rooms are pretty spectacular – but there’s this whole thoughtful design thing happening that I wasn’t expecting from a 4-star spot.

The first thing you notice walking in is how they’ve managed to make it feel both modern and lived-in at the same time. It’s not that sterile hotel chain feeling where everything’s beige and safe. The lobby has this relaxed energy, sort of like staying at a friend’s really well-appointed apartment building, which I guess makes sense given the name. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling or complicated key card explanations, just friendly staff who actually seemed to know the neighborhood. They mentioned a few local spots I’d never heard of, which turned out to be solid recommendations.

The rooms themselves are where this place really shines, though. Mine had these huge windows that let in tons of natural light, and the bed was one of those situations where you end up testing the mattress within five minutes because it just looks that comfortable (it was). What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details – good water pressure, outlets where you actually need them, and decent soundproofing. I could barely hear the street noise, even though we’re clearly in an active part of town. The kitchenette setup in some rooms is genuinely useful too, not just decorative. I actually used it, which rarely happens in hotels.

Here’s the thing that really won me over: the rooftop area isn’t just some afterthought deck with plastic furniture. They’ve created these different zones up there – spots where you can work with your laptop, areas that are better for evening drinks, and these corner spaces that catch the morning sun perfectly. I found myself heading up there with coffee most mornings, and it became this unexpected ritual. The 9-point rating makes total sense when you experience little touches like that. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything they do, they do well. The whole experience feels intentional rather than accidental, if that makes sense. Plus, the neighborhood has this energy that’s busy without being overwhelming – you can walk to plenty of good restaurants and shops, but it doesn’t feel like you’re staying in the middle of a tourist trap.
