You know what really caught me off guard about Solimar? For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – and honestly, that 9.8 rating isn’t just inflated review nonsense. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of supposedly fancier hotels that left me more frustrated than this little gem in Gospostina.

The location is actually perfect if you want to experience Budva without being right in the thick of the Old Town madness. You’re about a 10-minute walk from all the main action, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the late-night party crowds stumbling around at 3 AM (trust me, that matters more than you think). The walk into town is pretty pleasant too – you’ll pass some local spots that most tourists never see, including this little bakery that does these incredible burek pastries in the morning. The staff at Solimar seemed genuinely happy to help with directions and recommendations, not just going through the motions like at some places.

What really impressed me was the attention to detail. The rooms are clean in that way where you can tell someone actually cares – I’m talking about little things like the bathroom being properly ventilated (no weird musty smell that plagues so many coastal hotels) and the air conditioning that actually works quietly. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and the linens feel fresh, not that scratchy hotel standard stuff. There’s decent WiFi throughout, which honestly saved me when I needed to sort out some travel plans. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but everything they do have is fresh and local – the tomatoes actually taste like tomatoes, you know? Plus, the dining area has this nice view where you can see glimpses of the Adriatic while you’re having your coffee.

I’ll be honest, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities – there’s no spa or fancy pool area. But what they do, they do really well. The whole place has this relaxed, family-run vibe even though it’s clearly professional. Parking was straightforward, which is more than I can say for most places in Budva (seriously, some hotels just shrug and wish you luck finding a spot on the street). The check-in was quick, and they had some helpful tips about avoiding the crowds at certain beaches if you go early morning.

What sealed it for me was coming back after a long day exploring Kotor and just feeling… comfortable. Sometimes that’s all you need – a place that feels like a good base rather than somewhere you have to navigate or tolerate. The price point makes total sense too; you’re getting solid value without paying for bells and whistles you probably won’t use anyway. If you’re the type who wants to spend your days out exploring Montenegro and just needs a reliable, pleasant place to recharge, Solimar really delivers on that promise.

  The apartment was spacious, clean, well equipped and in a fantastic location. There is a supermarket a short walk from the property and the old town is less than 5 minutes walk. Ivanica, the host, was brilliant. She really cares about her guests and goes above and beyond to ensure their comfort.

  Location is very close to old town.
  There is a big balcony under bunch of grapes. And the apartment is very clean. The owner is very friendly and understanding. When we are leaving, she gave cute gifts to my 3 year old son.
