Sunset Bay Budva
Sunset Bay Budva
You know what?
You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first saw the address for Sunset Bay Budva – “second floor, last apartment on the left” doesn’t exactly scream luxury hotel, right? But here’s the thing about Budva that locals will tell you: some of the best spots are tucked away in these converted residential buildings, and this place is a perfect example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
The location is actually brilliant once you get oriented. You’re right in the heart of 33000 I ulica (which sounds more intimidating than it is – it’s just one of the main streets), so you can walk to the Old Town walls in maybe five minutes, but you’re far enough from the main Slovenska Obala waterfront strip that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 3 AM. I mean, you might catch some distant music from the beach clubs during peak summer, but it’s more like a gentle soundtrack than a noise complaint waiting to happen. The building itself has that Mediterranean apartment vibe – think whitewashed walls and shutters that actually work, not just for show.
What really impressed me was how they’ve maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The apartment setup means you get way more room than your typical 3-star hotel box, and honestly, the rating seems conservative. Maybe it’s because they don’t have a fancy lobby or concierge desk, but the quality is definitely punching above its weight class. The kitchen area is small but functional – perfect if you want to grab some of that amazing Montenegrin cheese from the market near Trg od Oružja and have breakfast without paying hotel markup prices. Plus, being on the second floor means you get decent light without street-level noise, and if you’re lucky with the room positioning, you might catch glimpses of the Adriatic between buildings.
The check-in process is refreshingly straightforward – no corporate nonsense, just practical communication about keys and WiFi passwords. Parking can be a bit of an adventure (welcome to Budva’s Old Town area), but there’s usually street parking within a block or two if you’re not afraid of narrow European streets. During July and August, well, that’s a different story entirely – you might want to ask about parking options ahead of time or just embrace the walking lifestyle. The whole experience feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a sterile hotel, which is either exactly what you want or completely wrong depending on your travel style. For me, it hit the sweet spot between comfort and authenticity, especially at a price point that won’t make you wince every time you swipe your card.
