Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about The Royal Suite – Tre Canne? It’s actually way more charming than that somewhat bland name suggests. I mean, when you first walk up to this place on Mediteranska street, you’re not immediately blown away – it’s a solid 3-star property that doesn’t try to pretend it’s something it’s not. But honestly, that’s part of what I ended up liking about it.
The location is pretty sweet if you know Budva at all. You’re close enough to the old town that you can easily walk there (maybe 8-10 minutes), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of summer crowds right outside your window. I stayed there in July, which is peak madness season, and while you could definitely hear some nightlife noise – this is Budva, after all – it wasn’t the kind of thumping bass that keeps you up until 4am like some places closer to the beach clubs. The staff at check-in were pretty helpful too, though their English was hit-or-miss depending on who you got. One guy gave me great recommendations for where to grab coffee in the morning (there’s this little spot around the corner that locals actually use), while another seemed a bit overwhelmed during the evening rush.
What really works here is that it feels authentic to what Montenegro actually offers, rather than some sanitized resort experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the AC works well (crucial in summer), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are probably the weakest point – they’re functional but could use some updating, and water pressure was sort of inconsistent. But look, for the price point and the 7.6 rating, you’re getting solid value. I’ve stayed in places that cost twice as much and delivered half the character. The breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but they do serve proper local cheese and bread, plus decent coffee. Actually, I ended up chatting with other guests most mornings – there’s something about smaller places like this that makes people more social. You’ll probably meet some interesting travelers here, maybe folks doing the whole Balkan loop or digital nomads who’ve discovered that Budva’s actually a pretty good base for working remotely. If you’re the type who needs everything perfect and polished, this might not be your spot. But if you want a genuine taste of staying somewhere that feels connected to the real Montenegro, rather than tourist-bubble Montenegro, The Royal Suite delivers on that front.
