You know what caught me off guard about Villa Budvanka? The name makes it sound like some fancy estate, but it’s actually this unassuming little guesthouse tucked away on Topliski put – and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. I mean, you’re still close enough to Budva’s old town that you can walk there in about fifteen minutes (maybe twenty if you’re dragging luggage), but you’re completely removed from all that tourist chaos that takes over the main streets during summer nights.

The whole place has this lived-in feel that’s hard to find in Montenegro’s coastal spots these days. It’s family-run, which you’ll figure out pretty quickly when the owner starts giving you detailed directions to his favorite bakery down the hill, or warns you that the local buses get packed around 4 PM when everyone’s heading back from the beaches. The rooms are simple – we’re talking 3-star simple – but everything actually works, the beds are comfortable, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try to be Instagram-perfect every corner you turn. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which I learned matters more than I thought when you’re trying to figure out Montenegro’s bus schedules.

What really sold me on this place though is the location on Topliski put. Most people don’t realize this street connects you to some of the best hiking trails above Budva – there’s this path that leads up toward Podmaine that gives you incredible views over the bay, especially around sunset. And parking? Actually manageable here, unlike down in the old town where you’re circling for twenty minutes hoping someone leaves. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night (you can hear the sea if you listen for it), but you’re still close enough that you can stumble back from Budva’s restaurants without needing a taxi. During peak season, July and August, this area stays surprisingly calm while the coastal road turns into a parking lot. I stayed there in late June and honestly, mornings were perfect – you’d hear birds instead of car horns, and the air still had that fresh mountain smell before the day heated up. It’s one of those places where the 9-rating makes complete sense once you realize what you’re actually getting: not luxury, but genuine local hospitality in a spot that feels like Montenegro before everyone discovered it.
