So here’s the thing about Hotel Vukotic – I almost walked past it three times before realizing this unassuming little place on Mediteranska was actually where I was staying. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that honestly feels more like where locals live than where tourists crash, which turned out to be exactly what made it special. What it is, though, is genuinely welcoming in that no-nonsense Montenegrin way, where the family running it actually remembers your name by day two and asks how your trip to Kotor went.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the Old Town walls – I timed it because I’m weird like that – but far enough away that you don’t get the party noise that hammers the beachfront places until 3 AM. Mediteranska itself is this tree-lined street where you’ll see babushkas hanging laundry and kids riding bikes, which sounds boring but honestly made me feel like I was getting a peek at real Budva life. There’s this little bakery called Pekara Boki about two blocks down (turn right when you exit) where they make these cheese burek things that became my daily breakfast ritual. The hotel itself has that lived-in comfort that three-star places do well when they’re family-owned – clean rooms that smell like proper detergent, not synthetic vanilla, and beds that are actually comfortable instead of trying to be some designer statement piece.

What really got me was how the staff handled things. Check-in took maybe two minutes, and when I mentioned I was heading to Sveti Stefan the next day, the owner’s son just casually drew me this little map showing the best photo spots and warned me about the parking situation. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t Google, you know? The rooms are simple but thoughtful – good Wi-Fi, a balcony that actually fits two people and a small table, and honestly the best shower pressure I had in three weeks of Balkan travel. I mean, it’s not Instagram-perfect or anything, but after a day of wandering around Budva’s stone streets in July heat, all I wanted was cold air conditioning and a hot shower, and Vukotic delivered both without drama. That 9.7 rating makes total sense when you realize it’s not trying to be something it isn’t – just a really solid, comfortable base run by people who clearly care about getting the basics right.
