Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw Hotel Wendy tucked away on Ive Lole Ribara street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in Budva. But man, sometimes you get pleasantly surprised. This little spot actually punches way above its weight, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The thing about this location is that you’re close enough to hear the buzz of Budva’s old town (maybe a 7-minute walk if you don’t get distracted by the gelato shops), but you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos that comes with staying right in the thick of things. You know what I mean – no drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM, but you can still walk to dinner without needing a taxi. The street itself is pretty quiet, which honestly shocked me given how wild Budva can get during summer. I actually slept really well here, and if you know anything about Montenegrin coastal towns in July, that’s saying something.

What really got me about Wendy was how the staff seemed to actually care about what they were doing. The check-in was smooth – no weird surprises or hidden fees that make you want to turn around and leave. The rooms are clean and functional, nothing fancy but everything works properly (the AC was a lifesaver, and the WiFi didn’t make me want to throw my phone out the window). I stayed in a room facing away from the main road, and it was surprisingly peaceful. You can hear the distant sound of the Adriatic if you open the windows at night, which is pretty nice actually.

The breakfast situation is solid – typical European spread with local touches that show they’re not just going through the motions. Fresh bread, decent coffee, and some regional specialties that you won’t find at the big chain hotels. Nothing revolutionary, but satisfying and real. What I really appreciated was how easy it was to explore from here. You’re positioned perfectly to hit the beach clubs during the day, wander through Stari Grad in the evening, and still have a quiet place to crash. Plus, there’s actual parking nearby, which – trust me – is not something you should take for granted in Budva.

Here’s the thing that really sells it for me: Hotel Wendy has that 9 out of 10 rating for a reason, and it’s not because they’re trying to be something they’re not. It’s because they’ve figured out how to be a really good version of exactly what they are – a comfortable, well-run, reasonably priced place to stay while you explore one of Montenegro’s most beautiful coastal areas. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially when you’d rather spend your money on incredible seafood and local wine instead of fancy hotel amenities you’ll barely use anyway.
